The Big Game Treestands #7 team kicked off their 2014 season on Saturday traveling to southern Iowa for Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) competition at 34 Raceway where Craig Dollansky recorded a dominating performance picking up the victory in his most recent visit in June.
With a good field of 33 drivers on hand, Dollansky got a feel for the track in hotlaps and then registered the 14th fastest lap in qualifying. Sixteen cars inverted into four heats then put the Aggressive Hydraulics Maxim on the pole of heat two where Dollansky powered to the victory. Starting on the pole of the dash, the #7 set the pace going on to win the event earning the right to start on the pole of the main event.
Following final preparations by Scott Vogelsong and crew, the Big Game #7 sprinter ran second in the early stages of the main event primarily running the highside around the 3/8-mile. After a caution around the midway point, Dollansky tried the bottom in turns 3 & 4 but gave up a position in the process and ended up racing to the checkered flag with a podium finish in third.
“I was happy with the way things went for our first night out, we were able to make some laps and shake things down,” commented the Elk River, Minnesota native. “We weren’t real fast but learned some stuff with our car and it won’t take long for us to get a handle on it. I felt good and probably raced more conservative than I needed to, but with a new team and it being our first time on the track in five months with a new crew all in all everyone did a great job and I’m looking forward to this weekend.”
The Big Game Treestands #7 team will compete next at the Knoxville Raceway season opener this coming Saturday, April 19th.
