TULSA, Okla. (June 9, 2014) – Consisting of five dates with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real in 2014, the second annual Bob Westphal Memorial Cup kicks off this Saturday, and with it brings the 22nd edition of the ASCS Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek. A total payout of nearly $150,000, this year’s ASCS Speedweek will encompass tracks in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas.

In its history since 1993, a total of 122 events in eight states have been held during Speedweek with 40 drivers earning at least one victory.

 

Renamed the Bob Westphal Memorial Cup in 2013 in honor of the late founder of Wesmar Racing Engines, Jeff Swindell is the defending champion of Speedweek with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real, mounting a charge of six consecutive podium finishes as well as going back-to-back with wins at the Lawton Speedway on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 and Creek County Speedway on Thursday, June 20, 2013. The string of podiums catapulted the Tennessee veteran from eighth to third in the standings.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway – Mesquite, Texas
41st annual Summer Nationals

Directions: Take I-20 East of Mesquite to the Lawson Road exit (three miles east of the I-635 interchange). The speedway is three and one-half miles north on Lawson Road.

The series 17th Speedweek stop at the famed half-mile, Johnny Herrera etched his name as the champion of the 40th annual Devil’s Bowl Summer Nationals in 2013. The win came as Herrera’s second at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in ASCS National competition with his first coming on November 2, 1996. Two stops in earlier this year in March for the Spring Nationals, Tony Bruce, Jr. captured the preliminary win with Patrick Stasa posting his first Lucas Oil ASCS National victory in the weather delayed finale.

Lawton Speedway has hosted the National Tour during Speedweek eight times with six winners. Jeff Swindell picked up the victory in 2013. The first Speedweek stop at the Edwards family run facility came on June 8, 2002 with Gary Wright snagging the win.

The track that began Speedweek in 1993 with Tennessee’s Mike Ward victorious, 11 drivers have posted wins at the Oklahoma quarter-mile in 13 visits. After Christopher Bell and Jason Johnson made contact batting for the lead in 2013, it was Jeff Swindell who emerged with a second straight wing dance in as many nights.

Returning to the Speedweek lineup for the first time since the series first visit in 2003, Shane Stewart is the lone Speedweek winner at the Outlaw Motorsports Park. Finally returning to the Muskogee oval on May 2, 2014, Aaron Reutzel picked up his second career Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour win.

The third time the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks” has hosted the ASCS Speedweek Finale, the Lucas Oil Speedway has seen two years of first time Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour winners. Cody Baker topped the field in 2012 with Jonathan Cornell coming from eighteenth to win in 2013.
