(Lebanon, IN)  The Saturday July 12 round of the Mel Kenyon Midget Series at US 24 Speedway will begin the 2nd half of the series’ 16 race season.  Mother Nature claimed the two most recent events of the 2014 season.  The rains came to US 24 Speedway on June 19 while the cars were waiting in the chute and a day of showers and thunderstorms nixed racing at Anderson Speedway on June 28.

US 24 Speedway has an big impact on the USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series where the driver’s must compete successfully on dirt and pavement surfaces to find themselves in contention for the series’ championship.  At a minimum the specialists cannot afford to show up and be content to turn laps in the highly competitive USSA Midget Series.

Just 39 points separate Cole Fehr, Colten Dooley and Jessica Bean at the top of the leader board. The drivers in the 4th to 9th spots find themselves within 52 markers of each other.  Going into US 24 Speedway, there is no driver with a clear advantage in the season outlook.

USSA awards points for each segment of the event from qualifying and the heat races to the feature.  Drivers who lead a lap and the driver leading the most laps each receive five bonus points.  This system ensures that the drivers are racing hard from their qualifying laps to the checkered flag in the main event.

The Mel Kenyon Midget Series returns to the semi-banked clay surface of US 24 Speedway on Saturday July 12.  Practice begins at 6:15 with racing at 7:30.
