(Lebanon, IN) The Indianapolis Speedrome was the site of an epic midget racing shootout featuring Kyle O’Gara and Travis Young. For 41 laps of Sunday NIght’s 50 lap Mel Kenyon Midget Series feature race O’Gara and Young battled – 1st to pass early leader Cole Fehr then to finally settle the issue on lap 41.
Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing development driver O’Gara followed Young to the front from their third row starting position. After passing Fehr, O’Gara spent almost as much time with a wheel under Young as he did on his tail tank. O’Gara got next to Young in turn one on lap 41 and used a lapped car in turn three to finish the job.
Behind the two leaders, Fehr, Colten Dooley and Jessica Bean fought their own pitched battle for the third spot. When the checkered flag flew, Fehr led Dooley and Bean across the finish line with just 4 tenths of a second separating the three drivers.
In addition to the great racing it was a fast night on the Indianapolis Speedrome’s new pavement. Bean broke Adam Wilsdon’s 3 month old track record of 11.995 on the way to winning her heat race, setting the new mark at 11.986.
