Abbottstown, PA — (October 11, 2014) — Danny Dietrich found himself the leader when Brian Montieth and Glenndon Forsythe crashed into lapped cars on the fifth lap and held off repeated challenges of rookie Austin Hogue over the next 20 laps to score his fifth win of the year in the season finale at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night.

“It was a crazy race,” said Dietrich after scoring his third win in the last four Lincoln races in the Sandoe’s Fruit Market/Hickory Run Orchards/Weikert’s Livestock #48, “My brakes were so hot from running so hard. My hat’s off to Austin. He drove a hell-of-a race and kept pressure on me the whole time. That’s impressive for a kid in his first year of 410 racing on a track like this. This is a pretty tough track to be good on. He raced me real clean.”

A redraw for the feature placed Dietrich fourth for the start. Outside front-row starter Glenndon Forsythe held off polesitter Brian Montieth over the first three laps. Montieth took the lead on lap four, but then disaster struck for the two leaders when spinning lapped traffic led to a Montieth flip and Forsythe spin in turn four.

Dietrich, who running third at the time, inherited the lead and paced the field the rest of the way, but Hogue gave him everything he could handle through heavy lapped traffic.

“That one lap I got into (turn) one there, and I decided to go to the top at the last minute and he was on the outside of me,” said Dietrich, “I thought ‘Oh, man.’ I had a really had a hard time pitching my car down and I was going his direction. He did a good job moving a little bit and I did a good job of trying to keep the car down. There were a couple of moments there that I’m not sure how we made it through. Lapped traffic was tough tonight. It’s unfortunate for the 2W and the 21. There were pretty fast. I wasn’t up on the wheel yet, but those two definitely had good cars there, and it a shame for them.”

The last laps of the race were run with Hogue on Dietrich’s back bumper behind heavy lapped traffic racing for position.

The margin of victory for Dietrich’s 23rd career Lincoln win was a scant .65 seconds.

Third through fifth were eighth-starting Cory Haas, 2014 track champ Alan Krimes (who came from 12th starting spot), and Matt Boland. Sixth through tenth were Adam Wilt, Jim Siegel, 14th-starting Tyler Ross, John Rudisill, and 18th-starting Kevin Nagy.

Rookie Brandon Rahmer was uninjured in a spectacular opening lap flip up the back stretch while battling a pack of cars, eventually landing on the outside guardrail after damaging the Prospect Auto Parts billboard.

410 Sprint heats were won by Boland, Nicole Bower, and Wilt, with 358 point series champ Chase Dietz winning the consolation.

The 20-lap “358” sprint thriller saw 305 sprint car veteran John Braim lead every lap until he was caught by Dwight Leppo coming off the final turn. For Leppo, it was his first career Lincoln win, not counting his big wheel race victory several years ago as a kid.

Leppo started on the pole and chased Braim the entire way before making the race-winning pass and crossing a half car-length ahead of Braim at the end.

Third through fifth were ninth-starting Matt Campbell, seventh-starting Brad McClelland, and lady driver Brie Hershey.

358 Sprint heats were won by Jason Schultz, Kevin Nouse, and McClelland. Nouse dropped from the feature field while running third early in the race.

Harlon Leppo recognized the sprint car career of his retiring cousin Brian by changing the number of his car to 71 and then going on to win the 15-lap Central PA Legends feature.

Leppo started sixth and wrestled the lead from Lucas Montgomery in the first two turns of the final lap to claim the win in the non-stop event (timed at 5 minutes, 4.53 seconds).

Montgomery settled for second in a race that saw three different leaders in the first three laps. Polesitter Travis McClelland led the first lap, followed by third-starting Chris McKinney on lap two, and then fifth-starting Montgomery, who led until the final lap.

Third through fifth were Jason Rochelle, McKinney, and Bill Diehl.

Legend heats were won by Leppo, Montgomery, and Bob Stough, with Tim Henry winning the consolation.

Randy Doty led every lap of the non-stop 25-lap All-American Outlaw feature, crossing in 8 minutes, 15.56 seconds.

Justin Cullum, Brian Green, Dylan Keim, and Rick Hulson (who started 17th) completed the top five.

Lincoln Speedway will once again host its annual Lincoln Race Car Flea Market on Saturday, November 15th from 6 AM to 2 PM followed by the annual Lincoln Speedway Awards Banquet on Saturday, November 22nd from 6 PM to 12:30 AM.
