Normally Sundays in March are relatively quiet racing wise. This weekend Sunday became busy with high profile events when Brownstown Speedway and Lincoln Speedway were pushed back to Sunday. This pair of events joins an unusual Sunday event this early in the season for the World of Outlaws at Antioch Speedway
Brownstown’s No Way Out 40 is the first non-wing sprint car race in the Midwest for the 2015 season while the Super Sportsman make their debut with the 410 sprint cars for 2015 at Lincoln. The Outlaws finish off the weekend before taking Easter Weekend off.
It was a standard run of the mill weekend until two major stories broke yesterday. Jeremy Elliott from the Patriot News broke the story that Dale Blaney may or may not be looking for work in the near future as team owner Jim Kennedy informed Blaney and crew chief George Fisher they might have to halt operations. It will be interesting to see if Blaney and Fisher can either keep the Kennedy operation going or both find a new team to work with together or separately.
The other big news came out of NASCAR circles when Kyle Larson passed out during an autograph session on Saturday at Martinsville Speedway. Larson was eventually transferred to a hospital in Charlotte where he underwent tests. Chip Ganassi Racing issued a statement that Larson was evaluated and all tests came back negative. Even though Larson feels completely fine doctors felt he should be held for more testing and will not race Sunday at Martinsville. Regan Smith will fill in for Larson on Sunday.
Locally one of the quieter schedule additions of the 2015 season was the Lane Automotive Michigan Traditional Sprints landing a date at Berlin Raceway on September 12th. The Berlin date adds to what is the strongest schedule in MTS history for the 2015 season.
With the victory on Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway during the Mini Gold Cup Donny Schatz took the lead on our feature win list with eight victories during the 2015 calendar year.
Friday night’s winner with the USCS sprint car series Danny Martin, Jr. did not let Saturday’s rain out at Toccoa Speedway keep him from racing. Martin hustled back to Volusia Speedway Park to win the Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprint Car Series feature.
Blake Hahn had a very nice weekend picking up $7,000 for his sweep of the ASCS Gulf South Region events at Golden Triangle Raceway Park and Battleground Speedway.
