Bechtelsville, PA — (May 13, 2015) — In honor of Memorial Day, the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series is proud to announce an initiative where we will honor and salute a local Wounded Warrior while representatives from the Keystone Wounded Warriors will be on hand raising public awareness and seeking support for their program and services.
Keystone Wounded Warriors is an Eastern Pennsylvania based non-profit corporation that seeks to honor the daily sacrifices made by the brave men and women in all branches of the United State Military. Funds donated to the Keystone Wounded Warriors are used to support local post-9/11 veterans and their families located in or with ties to Pennsylvania. Keystone Wounded Warriors strives to ease the burden on these local heroes providing financial, physical and mental resources.
The 2015 NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series kicks off Sunday, May 24th, Memorial Day Weekend, with a jam packed 5-25s spectacular featuring the best and brightest of the region’s top racing divisions. Making up this unique features only event will be the mighty NASCAR 358 Modifieds, ARDC Non-Wing Midgets, TSRS Sprint Cars, Sportsman and Legends cars with each division participating in 25 lap events. To kick-off the Keystone Wounded Warrior salute the USAC Non-wing sprint car driven by Joey Biasi will be on display Sunday night, May 24 as a promotion for the fast approaching USAC Eastern Storm opener set for Grandview Speedway on Tuesday night, June 2.
The Biasi Family Race Team will recognize Sergeant First Class Joe Weser (Retired) as the “Honorable Crew Chief For the Night” for the Biasi B! USAC sprint car. Thunder on the Hill will also recognize Mr. Weser as the guest of honor.
In 2010, while deployed to Afghanistan, Sergeant First Class Joe Wesner was injured by a Rocket Propelled Grenade during an attack on his outpost. As a result of this attack, he had both shoulders rebuilt, his right hip rebuilt, and seven fractures repaired in his back. Additionally, he sustained a severe Traumatic Brain Injury and suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. On July 27th, 2014, exactly four years from the day of the injury, Sergeant First Class Wesner was medically retired from the United States Army. He is a member of the Keystone Wounded Warriors.
Sergeant First Class Wesner’s once in a lifetime experience will include a ride around Grandview Speedway’s 1/3 mile high-banked oval clay racetrack in the pace truck, and dropping the green flag for one of the races that night. Additionally, his Honorary Crew Chief duties will take him into the pit area with the B1 USAC sprint car.
Keystone Wounded Warriors is a Eastern Pennsylvania based 501 (c)(3) nonprofit corporation that seeks to honor the daily sacrifices made by the brave men and women in all branches of the United States Military, but specifically those wounded on or after September 11, 2001.
The Keystone Wounded Warriors logo of a soldier helping a fallen soldier will be prominently painted on the center of the hood of B1 car as will Sergeant First Class Wesner’s name and duties as Honorary Crew Chief. These displays will remain on the car for the entire 2015 racing season.
Staff and members of the Keystone Wounded Warriors will be located in a kiosk located near the entrance of the track. Paul Spurgin, President, and Boyd Kohler, Board of Director’s will be available to provide information and answer questions.
