Abbottstown, PA — (May 30, 2015) — Anytime Brian Montieth is on track at Lincoln Speedway, there is never a lack of entertainment.
Montieth didn’t disappoint again Saturday night as he came from his 11th starting spot to score the win in the 25-lap 410 Sprint car feature.
But it wasn’t quite as easy as it might read on paper as the four time track champion raced past Gerard McIntyre, Jr. to take the lead on lap 19 but fell back to third a lap later after making contact with the inside guardrail.
But it didn’t faze the Phoenixville driver as he stormed back into the lead two laps later and drove off to pick up his 48th career track win and fourth this season in the Pigeon Hills.
“We had a good start,” stated the driver of the Jerry Parrish owned No. 21 sprint. “This type of narrow track and anybody knows on a Saturday night like this, anybody can win the thing. If it wasn’t for lapped traffic, I don’t think we would have caught the leaders in that first set.”
Brandon Rahmer led the first five laps before yielding to McIntyre exiting the second turn. While McIntyre set the pace, Rahmer had his hands full with Adam Wilt, Cory Haas and Montieth who was marching his way to the front.
Wilt took over second place after nine laps with Haas and Montieth getting by Rahmer a lap later.
Montieth took third place from Haas on lap 15 as all top four cars ran under a blanket.
Montieth then disposed of Wilt on the 18th lap for second place with a slider in turn three and then made the same move to take the lead from McIntyre a lap later.
The lead was quick-lived as Montieth brushed the wall and immediately fell back to third place with McIntyre reclaiming the top spot.
But Montieth was not to be denied as he regrouped and two laps later retook the lead and raced to his seventh overall win this season.
“I gotta give 110 percent because my boys give 110 percent,” Montieth said of his hard working crew. “The last couple of weeks I’ve had to work seven days a week and have been barely getting here on time so to be able to get in this thing and be comfortable is the key. It’s all done in the garage and I’m just the glorified guy standing here.”
Wilt was able to fight his way around McIntyre with three laps to go to finish in the runner-up spot with 10th starting Danny Dietrich coming on strong to finish in the third spot.
McIntyre faded to fourth at the checkered flag ahead of Haas with Jim Siegel, Tyler Ross, Tim Glatfelter, Austin Hogue and Robbie Kendall completing the top 10 finishers.
Heats for the 28 410’s were won by McIntyre, Glatfelter and Haas, with Billy Dietrich winning the consolation.
Seventh-starting Matt Campbell picked up his fourth career win in the 20-lap 358 Sprint car feature.
Third-starting CJ Tracy set the pace through the first eight laps, before Campbell took the lead following a lap eight restart. Tracy regained the lead on the 13th lap, but, a flat tire on the restart, handed the lead back to Campbell, who ran unchallenged the final laps to pick-up his first win of the 2015 season.
358 Sprint point leader Doug Hammaker came from 11th to finish second, followed by Brie Hershey, 10th starting Jeff Rohrbaugh and Jeff Halligan.
Completing the top 10 were Todd Rittenhouse, Jr. 19th starting Chandler Leiby, Brian Allman, Cody Fletcher and last week’s winner Cole Young.
Heats for the 27 358’s were won by Tracy, Lucas Montgomery and Hershey.
Kurt Zimmerman led all 20 laps to score the win in the All American Outlaw feature.
Zimmerman started on the pole and held off teammate Rich Hulson to pick up the win with Jim Chenoweth, Dylan Keim and Carnie Fryfogle rounding out the top five finishers.
