Sean Becker returned to victory lane on Wednesday night after making a late race pass to top the strong field of 50 cars that were on hand to open the 62nd Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions.
“I am just so thankful to have this team behind me, and am glad we were able to grab a win at the Silver Dollar Speedway during Gold Cup week,” Sean Becker said.
Timing the Mike’s Hard Lemonade/Buffalo Wild Wings/Cherry Street Mini Storage No. 75 machine in fifth fastest, ‘The Shark’ would finish third in heat race action and move into the Dash.
Finding himself with the one-pill after the redraw, Becker would lead all six laps of the race to earn the right to lead the field to green, which would be key on this night with the Silver Dollar Speedway extremely slick.
Though he would fall into second initially aboard the Menne Ranch Hay Inc./Astro Titanium/Ponybracket.com entry, Becker would stay with Sanders as rubber went down on the speedway early in the action.
Rolling up on Sanders’ rear bumper in the closing laps of the race, Becker was persistent as he pressured the leader on the bottom. On the 28th lap, Sanders would get up out of the rubber exiting turn four and drag race Sanders into turn one.
Using his veteran savvy, Becker would cross under Sanders exiting turn two, and go on to lead the final lap and ½ to win the Civil War Gold Cup.
“It was very cool to grab a win with Buffalo Wild Wings on our car for the week,” Becker added. “Tracks like that are tough to pass on, but Dan and everyone worked hard to give me a car that was there at the end.”
Thursday night, Becker would climb aboard a potent Mike Sala owned midget as he battled with the BCRA Midget Series. Timing in second fastest amongst the 28 cars checked in, Becker would charge from sixth to third in heat race action.
From the fourth row, Becker would find himself battling with his Sala Racing teammate, Colby Copeland, as well as Michael Faccinto as they raced inside the Top-10. When the checkered flew on the event, Becker would close his night out with an eighth place finish.
Becker would then turn his attention to the World of Outlaws portion of the Gold Cup on Friday and Saturday, as he would time in ninth fastest and just miss the heat race inversion.
Finishing fifth in his heat, Becker would like up 18th in the A Main and race forward to finish in the 14th spot.
Saturday night, Becker would lay down a great lap in qualifying time trials, and he ended up fourth fastest in his qualifying flight.
By way of his fourth place finish in heat race action, ‘The Shark” would line up in the fifth row of the 40-lap Gold Cup finale.
Battling with the likes of David Gravel, Daryn Pittman, and Paul McMahan, Becker would close his week out with a 12th place run.
“It was a great week of racing, and I am just thankful to have opportunities to race,” Becker noted. “I really have to thank Mike Sala and Dan Menne both for giving me great opportunities this week.”
Becker would like to thank Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Cherry Street Mini Storage, Menne Ranch Hay Inc., Astro Titanium, Ponybracket.com, Hunt’s Race World, Molecule, Shaver Racing Engines, FK Rod Ends, and K&N for their support in 2015.
