Port Royal, PA — (February 1, 2016) — The 2016 Port Royal Speedway schedule of events has been released, featuring 31 total race dates, starting with the season opener for the Weikert’s Livestock 410 sprints and the super late models on March 12 at 6 pm.
Of course, the 410 sprints and the super lates continue to be the tracks top flight divisions, showcasing the historic oval’s speed and frenzied action on a weekly basis.
The rich-in-history 410 sprints are set for 29 shows at Port Royal in 2016 including appearances by USAC, the All Stars Circuit of Champions Sprints and the World of Outlaws.
The first big race of the season for the sprints after the start of the season will be a new event on Saturday, April 23 as the All Stars invade for the inaugural “Keith Kauffman Classic,” that will include action for the super late models as well.
Kauffman, the track’s all time winningest sprint car driver, retired from the sport in 2013 after an illustrious career at Port Royal and across the nation and the man and his legend will be feted with this new marquee show for the sprints at the oval.
The 2016 Bob Weikert Memorial will be a sprint car extravaganza, spanning three days over the May 28, 29 and 30 Memorial Day holiday weekend.
On Saturday night, the first of three days of action at the track will include the now customary Fallen Heroes Championships for the sprints and the super late models before Sunday action spins off with the 410 sprints and the first show of the season at the track for the URC 360-powered sprint cars.
And the weekend-long Weikert weekend will climax on Memorial Day afternoon at 2 pm with the crowning of the 2016 Weikert Memorial champion after three days of competition and point accrual determines the titleholder.
The 26th annual Pennsylvania Speedweek series for 410 sprints hits the track on Thursday, June 30 and again on Saturday, July 2.
The Living Legends Dream Race is set for the sprints and super late models on August 6.
The 162nd annual Juniata County Fair will again include four race dates, kicking off on September 3 with the fair opener followed by the 65th annual Labor Day Classic and the two-day 49th annual Tuscarora 50 races, sanctioned by the All Stars Circuit of Champions Sprints on September 9 and 10.
The World of Outlaws sprints will invade Port Royal for the third season in a row on Saturday, October 15 with a raindate of Sunday, October 16.
And the season will close with Open Wheel Madness Twin 30s for 410 sprints and URC Sprints as part of Port Royal Foliage Days held on the grounds on October 22.
The super late models have 22 dates on the 2016 slate of events with highlights including sanctioned races by the UFO Late Models on March 26 and on September 3 for the annual Butch Renninger Memorial that helps kick off the Juniata County Fair.
Late Model Speedweek hits the track June 4 with the Fallen Heroes Championship slated on May 28 and another championship race slated for July 16.
In addition, the oval just recently announced in conjunction with Selinsgrove Speedway the launching of the Rt. 35 Late Model Challenge Series, comprised of three races at each track that will produce its own point champion and series bragging rights.
The River Valley Builders 305 sprints racing under the PASS/IMCA sanction will again contest eight races at the track for series bragging rights, again seeing its year end with the annual Blue Collar Classic interregional challenge event on October 8.
The Gray’s Auto & Towing 355 econo late models will have 13 races on the schedule and the Len Krautheim Auto Sales xtreme stock division is set for 7 races.
Other divisions slated to appear include the All American Outlaws, Central Pa Legends and the PA Mini Stock Series.
Special and popular promotional nights returning for another year include Pepsi Night May 29, Mother’s Night May 7, Free Student Night/Youth Baseball Softball Uniform Night May 14, Kids Easter Night March 26, Moon Shine Camo Night June 4, EMMR/Penn Central Reunion Night June 11 and Salute To The Military Night July 30.
In addition, three Camera & Autograph Nights are slated along with a pair of $1 Hot Dog Nights.
The annual Labor Day Classic will see a new twist added to the daylight fair classic this year as fans reap the benefits.
General admission for the infield for the racing show will be JUST $5 while adult general admission for grandstand fans will be JUST $12 and that grandstand price WILL include admission to the day-ending Demolition Derby that has become wildly popular during the last few years.
A separate admission price exclusively for the derby will be offered to newcomers and daytime infield fans if so desired.
Outside gate admission to the Juniata County Fair will again be FREE on Labor Day September 5 and for the two-day Tuscarora 50 All Stars races on September 9 and 10.
The Interstate Truck and Tractor Pullers Series will compete at the track as part of the fair on Sunday evening, September 4.
Test and Tune sessions for all divisions on the 2016 slate of events will take place on March 5 from 1 – 4 pm and on March 10 from 6 – 9 pm.
