(Plymouth, IN)  Plymouth Speedway welcomes the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, USAC Midgets and the local Swan Lake UMP Modifieds class this Friday, May 13 in the first of two big nights of racing this weekend.

Friday night’s event, the Bob Newton Classic, helps commemorate the memory of racing pioneer, Bob Newton.  It was Newton’s innovative mind that helped advance the racing world with a racing tire.  While Newton was a race car driver, he saw a need for better racing tires.  It was then when he and his wife, Joyce, started Hoosier Racing Tire in 1957.  The business started in an old abandoned horse barn in South Bend.  It was there where Bob and Joyce began producing their own race tires by re-treading street tires with softer compounds.  Newton introduced the area’s first slick recapped (or retreaded) tire for racing.  The tire has been featured in racing’s top series and continues to propel race cars to victories in many levels of racing.

Saturday night’s action will include a regular lineup of Swan Lake Resort UMP Modifieds, Shepherd Firearms Winged Pro Sprints, WTCA Super Streets, Walmart Thunder Stocks, and Dickies Restaurant 600 Open Sprints.

The grandstands will open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. ET both nights, May 13 and May 14.  For ticket information, visit www.plymouthspeedway.net.
