CALHAN, Colo. (May 16, 2016) – Zac Taylor helped his parents celebrate their wedding anniversary with a great weekend of racing.

Taylor picked up his second win of the season in the Colorado Alliance Tour (CAT) 305 Sprint Cars at Lamar Speedway in Lamar, Colo., on Friday and he followed that up with a second-place run at El Paso County Raceway on Saturday.

“It was an awesome weekend,” he said.

Taylor opened Friday night by winning a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. He then lined up on the pole of the main event at Lamar Speedway.

“On Friday I started on the pole and dropped back to fourth,” he said. “The track came to the car and I started going forward. A couple of cars spun out in front of me … I’m glad I didn’t get tangled up with them. It’s just great to get another win.”

The win was Taylor’s second of the season and it provided momentum entering Saturday, when he finished second in a heat race to line up sixth in the main event at El Paso County Raceway.

Taylor picked up a pair of positions at the start to climb into fourth place.

“We had a red and on the restart I drove hard into turn one and came out second,” he said. “I caught the leader and ran right on his rear bumper the last three laps and through lapped traffic. His dad came up to me after the race and said I would have won had I had two more laps so that made me feel good.”

Taylor’s second-place result gives him three podium finishes in three sprint car races this season.

Next up, Taylor will make his debut in Todd Henry’s midget on May 21 at I-76 Speedway in Fort Morgan, Colo., with the Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association (RMMRA).

“I’m super excited to back in the midget,” Taylor said. “Todd Henry is a great guy … fun to be around and I will work hard and give him 100 percent.”
