PORT ROYAL, Pa. Top Story Port Royal Speedway

Just days after winning their first Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions features of the season on the road in Ohio, All Stars regulars Sheldon Haudenschild of Wooster, Oh., and Danny Holtgraver of Pittsburgh have confirmed their intent to compete in the Sunday and Monday legs of the Port Royal Weikert show.

Both pilots, who have experienced notable success at Port Royal although falling just short of a trip to the winner’s circle, have tentative plans in place to tow eastward to Port Royal for the second half of the weekend following their performances in All Stars circuit action on both Friday and Saturday.

Also announcing his plans to compete in all three events is four-time All Stars titlist Tim Shaffer of Aliquippa aboard the Tom Buch entry.

And Trey Starks of Puyallup, Washington, will also be on hand to race in the Sunday and Monday events.
Also confirming intent to compete at the oval on Saturday and Sunday is long time track favorite Lance Dewease.

And while Dewease’s attendance by itself may not be groundbreaking, the mount he will compete in is sure to rattle the earth as he pulls the Kreitz-owned No. 69K onto the Port Royal clay for the first time in his illustrious career.

The familiar blue Kreitz colors have not visited the track since Don Kreitz Jr. himself romped to victory in a thrilling Tuscarora 50 performance back in 2013 and the car has always been a force anytime it enters the Port Royal pit area.

And this time around should be no different as the team continues to be wrenched by renown mechanic Dave Brown Sr. and it is coming off a Dewease trouncing of the World of Outlaws at Williams Grove Speedway on May 20.

In fact, the car has won the last three times it has been in action.

Danny Dietrich of Gettysburg will be on hand for all three races, campaigning a replica No. 29 sprint car in honor of the late, great car owner Bob Weikert of Fairfield.

In addition, two No. 29 show cars will be on display during the weekend.

On hand for all three dates will be a 1971 Trevis Craft entry as piloted by Kenny Weld and on Monday only the oval will host a 1985 restored No. 29 as driven by the great Doug Wolfgang.

Gates for the Saturday and Sunday shows open at 4 pm with 7 pm racing slated while Monday’s finale gets underway at 5:30 pm with gates opening at 2:30 pm.

Plans are in place for pay-per-view live streaming of the upcoming three-day Bob Weikert Memorial Sprint Car Spectacular at Port Royal Speedway.

There of course will be no substitute for attending in person but the three-day Port Royal sprinting special in honor of Weikert will be hosted on www.dirtstation.com for those who just can’t attend.

The shows will be interspersed with vintage film and video clips of Port Royal action from days and years gone by as well as of event honoree, the late Bob Weikert as well as his famous No. 29 sprint cars.

Live streaming rates for the Saturday kickoff will be $20 as well as for the second round on Sunday while Monday’s show will be available for $15.

The three-day Weikert Memorial 410 sprints will compete in the now traditional Fallen Heroes Championship on Saturday featuring a 30-lap main paying $5,000 to win and $400 to start.

Passing points awarded from qualifying events will be used to align the main event starting grid.

The super late models will race in a 25-lap Fallen Heroes Championship as well, paying $2,000 to win and $200 to start.

Action then swings to Sunday night when the Weikert Memorial sprints spin off time trials to set heat grids before moving on to a 35-lap feature paying a whopping $10,000 to win and $500 just to start.

The URC Sprints will also be part of the Sunday program, competing in a 25-lap feature paying $3,000 to win and $250 to start thanks to Greencastle Livestock Market.

Special bonuses of $200 each will be paid to the three highest finishing 358 sprint cars that race in the URC main event thanks to Racers Used Parts Warehouse.

A day later the whole weekend of sprint car mania culminates with an early evening program for the Weikert Memorial sprints paying $5,000 to win in a 25-lap main.

And after the dust settles, the three-day Weikert Memorial Champion will be crowned and a five-position point fund worth nearly $9,000 will be paid out with the title holder himself going home with $3,000.

In the event of only two events being completed due to weather, a two-day point fund worth more than $6,000 will be distributed.

All three events have a posted $200 Hard Charger Award sponsored by Lone Dakota Acres of Stephenville, Tx., and The Beer Hill Gang up for grabs with the Saturday and Sunday Hard Charger earning a guaranteed starting spot in the following days main event.

FREE GIVEAWAYS will be the name of the game for the May 28 and 29 show dates of the Weikert Weekend with over 1,000 Weikert items alone to be given out between the two nights including mugs, hats, can coolers and more plus as Sunday is also Pepsi Night, another 200 Pepsi shirts and hats will be given out on Sunday.

All giveaways will take place at the main admission gate under the grandstand.

Along with the Pepsi shirts and hats on Sunday, numerous 12-packs of soda will be given away along with tickets to local amusement parks and more.

At both the Saturday and Sunday shows, five girls and five boys bicycles will be given away to kids ages 12 and under and one adult fan will go home with a large flat screen TV at each of the three shows.

Fireworks are part of the Saturday racing program
