Babb wins WAR feature at Farmington

From Chad Buford

Farmington, MO — (July 9, 2016) — Taking over the top spot on lap fourteen, Terry Babb made it two-for-two with the Boss Chassis WAR Series at St. Francois County Raceway on Saturday night.

Points leader Clinton Boyles moved into the lead at the start as he was followed by Kenny Potter, Carson Short, and Babb. With Boyles running the bottom to perfection, Babb moved to the top side of the raceway and lap after lap, he battled with Potter and Short. Babb would eventually get by Potter and Short and set his sights on Boyles.

The action would be halted on lap thirteen for Adam Parmley who brought out yellow flag conditions after spinning. The caution was what Babb needed as on the restart, he stayed right with Boyles and zoomed around the high side of the raceway making the pass in turns three and four to lead lap fourteen. With Babb out front, Short raced Boyles hard for the second spot with Boyles spinning out in between turns one and two.

With the yellow out, the man on the move was Korey Weyant, who started twenty-first due to problems in his heat race. The winner of three straight Boss Chassis WAR A-Mains had a $200 bounty placed on him and was determined to not let anyone collect it. In fourteen laps, he had moved into the top six and was in contention.

On the restart, Babb again took off in the lead as he was followed by Short and Potter. Weyant was able to get by Katlynn Leer and TJ Muths and into fourth. By lap eighteen, Weyant was rocketing around the top as he moved into third by Potter. Weyant moved to the bottom trying to get by Short for second in turn one. He got on the brakes hard to keep from hitting Short and came to a stop ending his shot at a fourth straight win.

Babb again set the pace as Short and Potter followed, but the action would be halted one last time as with twenty-two laps in the books, Vinny Ward got together with another competitor and tipped over on the front straightaway. Ward was okay, but his night was over.

On the restart, Short made a huge run at Babb with the pair making contact. Babb was able to keep control and stay in the lead and Short would not get another shot as Babb went on to his second WAR win at SFCR in his KCBJ Motorsports/Faith Flat Out Ministries Eagle with Stanton power. Short crossed the line in second, but did not report to the scales earning a disqualification. This moved Muths up to a career best WAR finish in second in his Quality Body Shop/Scott Racing Engines Maxim. Leer also ran a career best third in the KCBJ Motorsports/APT Powdercoating Stealth. Robbie Standridge worked his way to fourth in the Stewart Auto Body Eagle with Mackay Racing Engine power. Rounding out the top five was Potter in his Dayco Painting XXX with Wesmar power under the hood.

Weyant, who restarted at the tail was able to work his way back up to a sixth place finish earning the Indy Race Parts Hard Charger Award. Rounding out the top ten were Kent Buckley, Layne Himebaugh, Chris Parkinson, and Patrick Budde. The Boss Chassis WAR Series will next be in action at the I-35 Speedway in Winston, MO Saturday, July 16th.
