However, the 15-year-old from Puyallup, Wash., can see the big picture after a DNF and a flip concluded his sophomore season in a sprint car at the 44th annual Western World Championships at USA Raceway in Tucson, Ariz., last weekend.
After sitting out the past two weekends following a concussion at the 18th annual Trophy Cup at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., on Oct. 22, the 15-year-old from Puyallup, Wash., has a clean bill of health and is highly anticipating this weekend’s ASCS National Tour event at Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, N.M.
“It sucks not winning, but you have to be happy with a second,” he said. “People don’t realize how big of a difference it is between first and second. We were just so close.”
The 15-year-old from Puyallup, Wash., will travel approximately 15 hours south to the middle of California for a track he’s never competed at – Ocean Speedway in Watsonville – and one of his favorites – Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare.
In his rookie season last year, the Puyallup, Wash., resident struggled when the World of Outlaws made their annual end-of-summer trip to his home state. He finished 11th in the B Main both nights at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash.
After a parts failure and a crash ended both of his features last weekend with the ASCS Northwest Region at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., Starks pinpointed where he was at prior to those DNFs.
