STARKS EARNS FAST TIME, TOP FIVE AT SKAGIT SPEEDWAY

Inside Line Promotions

โ€“ ALGER, Wash. (Aug. 16) โ€“ With one roll of the specialized dice, Trey Starks determined his fate.

After recording fast time in qualifying at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., last Saturday โ€“ his first quick time of the season โ€“ Starks was called to the frontstretch during the Opening Ceremonies. He then rolled a crafted dice down the track. Whatever number โ€“ between zero and eight โ€“ that came up was the invert for the feature.

โ€œI rolled a six,โ€ the Puyallup, Wash., native said. โ€œIt mattered because the track was kinda one lane. The guy who started on the pole won it. I was one of the only guys who moved up, and that was just one position.โ€

Starks drove from fourth to third in his heat race, which didnโ€™t matter because all of the competitors were locked into the feature. Because of his roll, Starks started the feature sixth.

With most of the drivers on the bottom, the 15-year-old tried to create a lane at the top of the track. Eventually he picked up one position and closed in on three drivers during the final laps.

โ€œThe second, third and fourth drivers were all right there at the start-finish line,โ€ he said. โ€œThey were trying to run the bottom and I was pretty much the only legitimate guy running the top. I was probably two car lengths from fourth place at the line.โ€

Starksโ€™ fifth-place finish was his sixth top five of the season and his second consecutive at Skagit Speedway, where he placed fifth the week before at the 360 Nationals.

โ€œGiven the track conditions, Iโ€™m pretty happy with it,โ€ Starks said. โ€œIt sucks when you roll a bad invert because at Skagit itโ€™s hard to come from a few rows back. Maybe this week we can qualify fast time again, roll a zero and win.โ€

He will race in the 410 class at Skagit Speedway again next Saturday.

Crew member Dallas Melby will be running Starksโ€™ 360 car on Saturday as well.
