A year later, Trey Starks can see his transformation as a sprint car driver.

In his rookie season last year, the Puyallup, Wash., resident struggled when the World of Outlaws made their annual end-of-summer trip to his home state. He finished 11th in the B Main both nights at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash.

There’s always a silver lining and Trey Starks found it.

After a parts failure and a crash ended both of his features last weekend with the ASCS Northwest Region at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., Starks pinpointed where he was at prior to those DNFs.

With one roll of the specialized dice, Trey Starks determined his fate.

Saturday was more than a good test-and-tune session.

For Trey Starks, it was a blast and it has the 15-year-old from Puyallup, Wash., more optimistic than ever.

Although he accomplished his goal, Trey Starks isn’t quite happy with last weekend’s results.

After five top 10s in six days, capped by his best career performance, Trey Starks is riding high.

Even though he’s more than happy about the overall results, it’s hard to not imagine would could have been.

Trey Starks went to Oregon looking for momentum and that’s exactly what he discovered.

It’s frustrating enough to have an engine expire. But when it happens to take away a top five, it’s down right aggravating.

Trey Starks let out a giant sigh and relaxed his shoulders, which seemed to let the monkey jump right off.

It was a good tune-up.

That’s what Trey Starks got from Saturday’s race at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., where he finished eighth on a track that continued to surprise.

Two nights, two wrecks, too many obstacles.

Homework.

Loose, loose, loose.

That’s the best way to summarize Trey Starks’ weekend, when he overcame an ill-handling sprint car to finish 10th with the ASCS Southern California Region at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., on Saturday.
