ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 7/24/2011 – He’s been a mentor to dozens in the Lincoln pits and was named the 2010 national “410” sprint car rookie of-the-year.

And in Sunday’s special Premier Auto Works/Auto Locator Night in the Pigeon Hills, Brad McClelland held off two of sprint car racing’s hottest drivers to score his first career “410” sprint car win.

“This division is so tough,” said McClelland upon exiting his B&D Truck Hoist #6, “When you beat guys like Brian Montieth, you’ve had a good night. I wish (injured driver) Fred Rahmer was here so I could say I beat him, too!”

“I want to thank my family and crew,” continued McClelland, “And especially (mechanic) Shawn Norris. That guy really knows race cars, and has been a big help.”

Handicapping put McClelland on the inside of row two for the start. For the first three laps, he ran third to front row starters John Barnett and Mike Bittinger. Bittinger grabbed the lead from Barnett on lap four, with McClelland moving into the runner-up spot one lap later. He chased one-time winner Bittinger for the next four laps before making the race-winning pass on lap nine.

Sixth-starting Brent Marks caught Bittinger for second on lap 12, and he ran there until he broke an axle while trying to hold off the challenges of ninth-starting Aaron Ott as the two passed under the flagstand to complete lap 20. Ott assumed second, with 11th-starting Brian Montieth up to third for the restart.

But neither driver could catch McClelland, who became the 11th different winner in 18 races run at Lincoln this year. Ott and Montieth settled for second and third, with Kevin Nouse and tenth-starting Danny Dietrich completing the top five. Sixth through tenth were Jim Siegel, 12th-starting Lance Dewease, Brian Leppo, Alan Krimes, and 21st-starting Sam Schlosberg.

Heats for the 23 “410” sprinters were won by Montieth, Leppo, and Dietrich.

Logan Schuchart became the 12th different winner in as many 2011 Lincoln features in the 20-lap “358” sprint car main. Schuchart, who has now won at four different tracks this year, started sixth and took the lead from polesitter and race-long leader Billy Pauch, Jr. on lap seven. He led the rest of the way, with Pauch holding on for his best-ever sprint car finish in second. Jeff Rohrbaugh, Cris Eash, and Niki Young completed the top five.

Eash’s fourth-place finish, combined with his win at Trail-Way Friday night, was good enough to claim the $500 top prize for the best two-night combined finish in the Trail-Way/Lincoln “358” sprint car “Shootout.” Shawn Norris, who was credited with helping McClelland to his 410 sprint car win, also serves as head wrench for the Bruckner family #10W sponsored by West Shore Printing.

Sixth through tenth were Mike Bittinger, Dale Hammaker, Billy Dietrich, Ted Thomas, Jr., and Tim Wagaman.

Heats for the 33 “358” sprinters were won by Wagaman, Schuchart, Hammaker, and Rohrbaugh, with Logan Wagner winning the consolation.

Sam Gallagher was a double-winner in the thundercars, taking the make-up feature which was rained out back on June 4th, and then coming back to claim the regularly-scheduled feature.

In the 20-lap make-up feature from June 4th Gallagher passed Todd Miller on the 17 lap and raced away to his fifth win of the year. Gallagher took the checkered for his 21st career win over Miller, Mike Slaybaugh, Roy Warehime, Jr., Duane Watson, Mikey Guise, Justin Mong, Danny Beard, Jimmy Combs, and Jamie Zentmyer.

Then in the regularly scheduled 20-lap feature Gallagher passed Beard with five laps to go in the crash-filled event and raced away to his sixth win of 2011, and the 22nd of his career, over Beard, Mong, Watson, Brian Diehl, Combs, Bob Johnson, Al Crammer, Jim Tyson, and Warehime.

Lincoln Speedway swings back into action next Saturday night, July 30th at 7:30 PM with a regular three-division show of Lawrence Chevrolet 410 Sprints, Keizer Aluminum Wheels 358 Sprints, and Thundercars. Gates will open at 5:30 PM.
