Lawton, OK — (August 20, 2011) — Brandon Corn left little doubt about his first career American Sprint Car Series feature win by wiring the field in Saturday night’s 25-lap American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region main event at Lawton Speedway.
The Gause, TX, shoe gunned into the lead from the pole position and led all the way atop the high-banked, ¼-mile red clay oval for his first taste of ASCS victory lane glory.
A final caution with just seven laps to go gave his pursuers one last chance, but a lapped car allowed Corn to open up enough advantage to put the win away ahead of Danny Wood, who topped the July event at Lawton Speedway.
Wood survived a last-lap slider from Sean McClelland, who looped it in the final corner as he tried to take the runner-up position. Kevin Ramey was credited with the show position, with 18th-starter Andy Shouse and 15th-starter Matt Covington rounding out the top five.
Mike Goodman raced from 16th to sixth, with Claud Estes, 20th-starter Joe Wood, Jr., 17th-starter Eric Baldaccini and John Ricketts completing the top ten.
Chad Wilson, Danny Wood, Derrik Ortega, Ricketts and Blake Hahn topped heat race action for Saturday night’s 36-car field, with Covington and Goodman winning the “B” Mains.
