Port Royal – The famed Weikerts Livestock No. 29 sprint car will live again at the upcoming UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Bob Weikert Memorial at Port Royal Speedway on April 28.

Piloting the replica car will be Midwesterner Justin Henderson, current driver of the Sorokach No. 35 machine.

In conjunction with Weikerts Livestock and company owner and president Todd Weikert of Fairfield, the Sorokach team will turn their mount into the Weikert car for the prestigious event that will pay $10,000 to win and $100 to lead each lap out of a total purse that eclipses $30,000.

The car will be schemed after the renowned Weikert/Wolfgang days from the 1980s, specifically that of the car that conquered the Knoxville Nationals in 1984.

And that strikes a chord for Henderson, who hails from Sioux Falls, SD., just as his idol Doug Wolfgang does.

“When I was growing up my dad had a close relationship with Doug Wolfgang in the 1980s when Wolfgang was one of the baddest men in the country,” says Henderson.

“He was always a hero of mine, always my hero from the time I was growing up.”

Wolfgang and Weikert paired for several years through the early and mid 1980s, ripping off wins across the nation with blistering speed.

“He (Wolfgang) was 32 years old when he started driving for Weikert and I’m 32 this year,” notes Henderson.

“It couldn’t be cooler for me and it’s such an honor and a privilege to drive that car and hopefully I serve it well.”

Henderson thanks his current sponsors in the form of Marks Millright, Montrose Molders, Pioneer Pole Buildings and B & H Landscaping for helping make the Weikert replication possible.

All Star Bob Weikert Memorial action gets underway at 7 pm. Adult general admission is just $20 with students ages 12 – 18 admitted for just $5.
