Sun Prarie, WI — (June 30, 2013) — Zach Daum scored a thrilling last-lap victory Sunday Night winning the 30-lap Stark Automotive Group-Mid-State Equipment Badger Midget Series feature at Angell Park Speedway.
Scott Hatton jumped into the lead at the start, one lap later a five car accident exiting Turn 4, involved Brandon Waelti, Austin Brown and Daniel Robinson with all three cars flipping, there were no driver injuries. On the restart Hatton continued to hold the lead closely followed by Andrew Felker, Daum, and Brad Kuhn. The top four were separated by less than four car lengths for the first half of the event. With ten laps remaining Hatton held a one car length lead on Felker.
One lap later Felker tried to pass Hatton exiting Turn 2, and surrendered place to Daum. Hatton’s two car length lead was erased on Lap 26 for a stalled car. On the restart Hatton quickly moved away from the field, however before the lap could be completed the caution again appeared for a stalled car. The enusing restart was identical for Hatton.
Hatton drifted high entering Turn 1 on the white flag lap, Daum drew even on the backstretch then driving under Hatton entering Turn 3 with Hatton on the high side and Daum on the bottom groove. Daum finished one-car legnth ahead of the four-time Badger Champion driving the Dan Daum owned Eagle/Toyota No. 5. Kuhn, series point leader Felker and Mike Hess completed the top five.
“I got a run on Scott down the backstretch after he was a little high enteruing Turn 1 and made it stick, it’s great to finally get a feature victory here it was on my bucket list” commented Daum on his first career feature victory at the track, making him the 135th different midget feature winner at the track in 67-years of racing.
Jake Neuman scored a wire to wire victory capturing the 15-lap Badger 600 Micro feature finishing ahead of Jason Dull, Matt Paderta, Norm Ehrke, and Chad Bogar.
