(FEBRUARY 2, 2010, RIVERSIDE, CA) Riverside, California’s David Cardey, 2nd place finisher in the 2009 USAC/CRA Championship point standings, announced on Monday that he will be fielding a car for himself to race in the series at Perris Auto Speedway in 2010 and that he is looking for a ride for out of town races. The popular series kicks off its 2010 campaign on February 19th and 20th at USA Raceway in Tucson, Arizona before moving onto the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track on February 25th and then Cardey’s home track at Perris on February 27th.
Cardey, 34, is parting company with the iTi Performance team and car owner Glenn Crossno after three seasons. “They are going to a driver development program for the 2010 season,” Cardey said. “I want to thank Glenn and everyone at iTi for giving me the opportunity to drive their equipment. It is always top notch stuff and they are a top notch team. I certainly respect their decision to move on and wish them the very best in their future racing endeavors.”
While Cardey is moving on to run his own equipment, it will still be familiar stuff for him. He will again pilot a 5-Bar iTi Performance chassis and will run as the #59.
Cardey, who had shoulder surgery in December to repair a racing injury, would like to run the full schedule and take another shot at the USAC/CRA crown. He hopes he can find a ride for out of town events (or the full schedule if such a ride is available). “We want to run for the title, but financially we can only afford to run our own team for the hometown races at Perris,” he said with a shrug. “Hopefully, I can find something to drive out of town or we can secure enough sponsorship to take our own show on the road. I can tell you this, if we cannot run for the championship points and only run Perris, we will be focused on one thing only every night. That will be to win the main event.”
As always, David Cardey would like to thank all of his sponsors: iTi Performance Motorsports, Franklin Rear Ends, Empire Plumbing, Racer’s Pub, DWT Wheels, Circle Track Racing, Defender Products, Powell Pipe & Supply, Hoosier Tires, K&N Filters, 5-Star Gas & Gear and Scott Daloisio Sports.
