High octane championship series resumes at Placerville Saturday

PLACERVILLE, CA – If the first weeks of competition are any indication of what’s to come at Placerville Speedway for the 2010 Red Hawk Casino Championship series at Placerville Speedway, local fans will not want to miss a single night of actions. This Saturday night the thrills return to the quarter mile dirt track with the third event of the season co-sponsored by Hoosier Tires, Coors Light, Pepsi Cola and Riebes Auto Parts.

Saturday night is Carl’s Jr. night at Placerville Speedway. Star Acquisitions and Carl’s Jr. have been sponsoring events at Placerville since last season and are being recognized with their very own title night at the foothill speedway. Prior to race night the Carl’s Jr. on Fairlane will be hosting a large race car show and driver meet and greet from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The entire Nor-Cal Dwarf Car division is likely to be on hand for the event as they are kicking off a campaign to find a cure for Crohn’s Disease. Kady Munroe, the daughter of NCDA patriarchs Frank and Janis Munroe suffers from this incurable disease and is an honored hero in the upcoming Steps Walk at the State Capitol in Sacramento. The Nor Cal Dwarf Car Association will be raffling off a number of great prizes at Carl’s Jr. Saturday to raise funds for Kady’s campaign.

In addition to the colorful Dwarf Cars and their drivers, several drivers from Placerville’s weekly divisions will also be on hand. Recent sprint car winner Sean Becker is likely to be on hand along with late model winner Jerry Bartlett and Pure Stock winner Dennis Armstrong. Additional top drivers that will be participating including Placerville’s James Sweeney, Heather Bartlett of Yuba City and more.

“This is a great event to promote our sport and at the same time benefit a great cause,” said Bill Sullivan of Placerville Speedway. “We invite everyone out to show their support. Come out and meet these drivers, they are great personalities and they love to give autographs and pictures to the kids. It also shows great support to a business that supports us in the community.”

Following the car show at Carl’s Jr. all four divisions will converge at Placerville Speedway for a great night of nail biting racing action. The dwarf cars, winged sprint cars, limited late models and pure stocks will all be in competition and the show is sure to be fun for the entire family for hours.

In the sprint car division, Placerville’s Andy Gregg leads the early season point standings after a second place finish last week about his Seven Industries #53 sprint car. Sitting in second place is Elk Grove’s Greg DeCaires. DeCaires, a former two time Placerville Champion is currently driving the #91 MotoWear Sprint Car, filling in for primary drivers Matt Land of Elk Grove who is focusing on his academics during the opening weeks of the season.

Former track champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn is third in the standings followed by recent winner Sean Becker of Antelope, the defending two time Civil War Series champion. Colby Wiesz of Colfax rounds out the top five.

Last Saturday night had an impressive showing in the Dirt Solutions Late Model Division. After an opening night victory defending champion Jerry Bartlett of Yuba City is the early point leader. Bartlett is followed two points back by his arch rival Dan Brown Jr. of Nevada City. Tom Arbogast of Auburn is third in the standings ahead of Jay Norton of Shingle Springs. Matt Davis of Auburn.

The Pure Stock division is very competitive this season at Placerville and at the helm of the standings is Dennis Armstrong of El Dorado who sits three points ahead of Placerville’s Danielle Clauson. Both feature winners are followed by Placerville’s Keith Fournier and Chris Curtiss. Rick Grunert of Woodland rounds out the top five.

Saturday’s car show and meet and greet starts at 10 am and runs until 2 p.m.. The front gates of the speedway will then open at Placerville Speedway at 5 p.m. on Saturday night. Adult tickets are $12. Juniors and Seniors are $10.00 and Children are $5. Five and under are admitted for free.
