Horstman Rides Rim to First Career ASCS SOD Feature Win

By T.J. Buffenbarger

Quincy, MI. (Saturday May 1st, 2010) Jared Horstman outlasted the field through several caution flag periods to score the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP feature at Butler Motor Speedway. Horstman inherited the top spot after Kyle Sauder tangled with a lapped car while leading and held off multiple drivers holding the runner up position at different points in the main event to take the victory.

The car was perfect tonight, said Horstman. I only had to bump the wing back just a little bit. All the caution flags were nerve racking though. I didnt know who was behind me either.

Sauder and Dain Naida started on the front row of the 25-lap feature event. Sauder took the lead as Naida slid off the race track and lost several positions. Sauder continued to lead until entering lapped traffic when ASCS Southwest Region visitor Perry McMIllan spun in turn four and collected Sauder. Sauder retired pitside while McMillan restarted.

Dustin Daggett made a move into second after the restart and started putting pressure on Horstman for the lead until just passed halfway when Daggett drove off turns three and four and lost six positions.

Sean Robinson was the next driver to power into the runner up position, but problems continued to befall the runner up position as Robinson slid off the track after Alaskan driver Pete Ishi had spun off turn one and made minor contact with Ishi, coming to a stop in turn two.

This put Ron Blair into the runner up spot for the restart, but Ryan Grubaugh was on the move. Grubaugh moved into second. Horstman was up for the challenge though, keeping his momentum up on the top side and motoring to his first career ASCS SOD feature victory. Grubaugh score the runner up spot followed by Brett Mann, Blair, and Daggett recovering from his slide off for the fifth spot.

Sauder, Mann, and Daggett scored heat race victories. Daggett also picked up the win in the fast car dash while Aaron Smith claimed the B-Main win.
