Three-time USAC Indianapolis Speedrome Regional Midget Champion Ted Hines will be the Grand Marshal Wednesday night as the Speedrome hosts “Ted Hines Night” featuring the USAC Regional Midgets, Midwest Ford Focuses, Young Guns and Mopar .25 Midgets.
Dalton Armstrong, a neighbor of Hines in New Castle, Ind., leads the Regional Midget standings after a weekend victory at Marne, Mich. and a fourth-place finish last Wednesday at the Speedrome. He is 54 points ahead of Dillon Welch in the latest standings.
Zach Daum of Pocahontas, Ill. passed Mike Larrison on lap five and led the final 46 laps to win Wednesday night’s 50-lap USAC Regional Midget race at the Indianapolis Speedrome. Daum piloted the Daum Crop Insurance/Weld Wheels Beast/Esslinger Ford and was followed at the checkered flag by Kyle Hamilton, Ali Jackson, Armstrong and Levi Roberts. Welch failed to finish Wednesday’s race on “Michael Lang Night.”
Armstrong won Saturday night’s 25-lap USAC Regional/WOMS Midget race at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich., taking the lead in his C & A Motorsports Beast/Stanton Toyota on the white-flag lap after leader Welch lost an engine. Fast qualifier Daniel Bedford finished second ahead of Jackson, Chris Phillips and Phil Rutledge. Dalton led the first five laps and Welch led the next 18 before he dropped out.
Hines racked up 17 feature wins on his way to consecutive championships at the Speedrome in 1990, 1991 and 19992.
