September 29, 2010 – Josh Fisher competed at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Harley Van Dyke’s #5H last weekend, coming home with a 15th place finish in the 61-car Lucas Oil ASCS National field. That came on the heels of finding out that he was officially named the track champion at the Lake Ozark Speedway. This weekend, the Smithton, Missouri driver will travel with the #5H team to the “Rock ‘N Roll 50” at the Riverside Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas.
The LOS championship is Josh’s second (he also won in 2008). The finale was rained out before the feature on September 18 and it will be not made up. “They cancelled it, which is a little bad for us,” he says. “We were able to win the championship though, so that’s a good thing. I just really wanted to race that last race.”
It was Josh’s first outing in the Van Dyke #5H. Rodney Tiner turns the wrenches. “The track was super greasy in hot laps,” says Josh of Saturday’s race near Wheatland, Missouri. “We were spinning the wheels out there, but it came around for the heat race.”
Josh posted sixth in his heat race. He was able to register enough passing points to transfer to the main event…not an easy task, considering the 61-car field. “On the initial start…I wish they would have let it go, because I was up to second already,” he says. “It was going good. We had some tough guys up front, but we were able to work up to third. It was pretty tacky and hard to pass.”
The heat finish would put Josh outside of row five for the feature. “It slicked up a bit for the feature and we had some passing going on,” says the 2009 Winged Outlaw Warriors champion. “I struggled with the handling a bit, so that was a little frustrating.”
In the end, he would checker fifteenth. “We’d have probably liked to have finished better, but when you make the show you are doing better than 40 other cars off the bat,” says Josh. “We may have got the car a little tight for where I wanted to run, but to make the show the first time out wasn’t bad.”
Josh is thankful to drive for a legendary car owner, and a well respected mechanic. The “Rock ‘N Roll 50” takes place this Friday and Saturday night at the track affectionately known as “The Ditch”. “I have to thank Harley and Rodney for this opportunity,” he says. “I’m really looking forward to getting down to Riverside.”
