(OCTOBER 15, 2010, RIVERSIDE, CA) The good news! On his first lap of qualifying at the USAC/CRA race at the Southern California Fair, David Cardey recorded the ninth fastest lap of the day and he was faster through the first half of his second lap. The bad news! When he entered turn three on that second qualifying lap, his engine exploded in a ball of flames and he was done for the day. It was a tough break for Cardey who came into the race eighth in USAC/CRA points despite not racing full-time in the west coast series.
On the brighter side, Cardey was chosen as one of the four drivers to participate in the winner take all “Legends of Ascot Match Race” at Perris Auto Speedway on October 23rd. The Riverside, California based racer who will celebrate his 35th birthday on Halloween, will square off against Danny Sheridan, Rip Williams and Tony Jones in a series of four, four lap match races. The races will be scored by points (6,5,4,3) and at the end of the fourth race the driver who accumulates the most points will take all of the prize money. As this piece went to press, the purse is just shy of $5,000.00 and there is a still a week to go.
Fans who would like to learn more about Cardey and get his perspective on the upcoming 15th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals can listen in when he is interviewed live on Michigan’s tjslideways.com on Tuesday, October 26th at 4:00 PM PST.
David would like to thank all of the sponsors for making his 2010 season possible.
