Despite a tough 2010/11 season debut night, Cameron Gessner was still able to salvage a respectable third place finish on the podium last Saturday night at Brisbane International Speedway (BIS) during the third round of the KRE Queensland Sprintcar Series.
Third place on the podium was a pleasing result for Gessner and the CG Motorsport team considering what they had to go through in order to achieve it.
“It was certainly a wild night and I’m pretty thankful that I was able to just finish, let alone finish on the podium,” Gessner expressed. “A lot of credit must go to my team for all their effort in helping get the car back out onto the track after my mishap leading up to the Dash and it was pleasing to be able to reward them by finishing on the podium.”
Earlier on in the night on a demanding BIS track, Gessner had his solid season debut, which has seen him qualify fourth in time trials and then place fifth in both of his heat races, derailed in the lead up for the Top 6 Dash. After a track grade the Top 6 drivers had a hot lap session before the Dash and it resulted in Gessner hitting one of the large ruts and flipping over on the opening lap of the session. This incident ruled him out of the Dash where he was scheduled to have started from outside of the front row, mainly due to suspension damage.
The CG Motorsport team worked hard to repair the damage in order to get the QLD # 68 Cheetah back out on the track for the feature race. Due to not making the start of the Dash, Gessner came out of position six in the feature race field.
In a 2010/11 season scheduled that will see them contest the majority of the major shows along the East Coast, Gessner and his CG Motorsport team are confident that they can be one of the leading contenders on any given night.
Gessner and the CG Motorsport team will have their second outing of the season at Sydney Speedway (Sydney, NSW) on Saturday night, November 13 for the $10,000 to win event.
For the 2010/11 season Gessner and CG Motorsport team are proudly supported by AUS Fuel, Direct Haul, Breast Cancer Australia, Centastate Civil Contractors, Metalcorp, QLD Speedway Spares, Greenies Tippers, Cheetah Performance and Don Ott Race Engines.
