Granger, IA—March 6, 2011—Familiarity breeds success and for Kraig Kinser at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, that has certainly been the case in his World of Outlaws career. Having won at the track in the past, along with having several strong runs, the third generation driver used all of that knowledge to his advantage during the Las Vegas World of Outlaws Nationals last Wednesday and Thursday aboard the Casey’s General Store Maxim to score a seventh-place finisher in the opener, while wrapping up the two-day event just outside of the Top-10 in the finale.
The two night event kicked off on Wednesday night with Kraig scoring a solid seventh-place finish after lining up 12th in the main event. He fell back to 13th early in the race and remained there until the late going, where he picked up six spots over the last six laps. Kinser’s third Top-10 finish of the season helped the third generation driver move up a spot in the World of Outlaws championship standings and break back into the Top-10 in points.
Kinser wrapped up the event with a 13th-place effort, after getting caught up in a first lap incident that sent him to the tail, then recovering from a late race spin to gain a few spots on the final double file restart of the night. Kraig opened the evening with an early draw in time trials, turning in the 15th fastest lap, with the track getting significantly faster as the session went on. He lined up fifth in the third heat race and finished sixth, which would put him in the seventh row for the start of the 30-lap main event.
At the start, the native of Bloomington, Indiana was caught up in a multicar accident that jumbled the starting lineup. On the restart, he would line up 20th and worked his way back up to 14th where he was running with five laps to go when a spin would put him back to 20th. He would make a charge over the final few laps to finish 13th, which helped him move to ninth in the World of Outlaws championship standings, just 14 markers out of the eighth spot.
Kinser and the Parsons Motorsports team will return to action next Saturday night, March 12 in the Mini Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California.
Kraig on Las Vegas:
“We were pretty good the first night and were able to stay out of trouble and gained some spots. We worked out way forward and that is the most important thing. The second night we had to work back from that first lap accident and then the late spin and were able to finish. We’ll just keep working hard, plugging away and getting laps in. The more we race, the more everyone on this Casey’s General Store team will get comfortable with each other.”
