D1 MIDGETS HOPE TO OPEN 2011 CAMPAIGN AT SPEEDROME & ANGELL PARK

Indianapolis, IN — (May 23rd, 2011) — The USAC Mopar D1 Midget Series, a victim of rain outs in its first two scheduled events in Indiana, tries again to kick-start its 2011 season this week with races Wednesday night at the Bryant Heating & Cooling Indianapolis Speedrome and Sunday night at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisc.

Dalton Armstrong on New Castle, Ind. won last year’s D1 (the Regional Midgets) title but this year’s series is expected to incorporate new challengers.

Wednesday night’s Speedrome event, the first of this year’s “Elite 8” at the 1/5-mile paved oval, includes the USAC Midwest Ford Focus and Focus Young Guns Midgets. The track has hosted more USAC races than any in USAC’s 56-year history.

Angell Park, home of the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame, also has a storied USAC history, dating back to 1970. Last year’s five USAC races at the third-mile dirt oval produced four different winners. Bryan Clauson won twice and Brad Kuhn, Brad Sweet and Tracy Hines also were victorious there.
