ANDERSON, Ind. – Persistent showers and dangerous lightning brought an early end to the BioBased US Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series event at Anderson Speedway on Wednesday night.
After battling the elements throughout the afternoon and evening, a strong storm moved into the area just as the starting field began lining up for the scheduled 60-lap feature event. With a steady rain falling, frequent lightning flashing across the landscape, officials elected to cancel the balance of the evening’s racing.
Series officials are working with Anderson Speedway on a reschedule date, which will be announced as soon as possible.
The strong field that entered the event came from eight states and Canada. Jacob Wilson led the way in a blistering qualifying session, laying down a lap of 10.325 seconds. With 23 cars on hand, a great number were bunched in the 10.5-second range, and all but four entrants timed in under 11 seconds.
Defending race winner Jimmy McCune captured the first heat race, while series veteran Hank Lower won the second heat. Ron Kohler captured the third and final heat race.
The series will remove the wings and return to traditional form for the 63rd annual Pay Less Little 500 this coming Saturday night, May 28.
