– JETMORE, Kan. (June 1) – Haley and Miranda Arnold had three great nights of racing last weekend; just not at the same time.
For 18-year-old Haley, the highlight of the weekend was Friday at RPM Speedway in Hays, Kan. In her first race at the semi-banked, 3/8th-mile track, she finished 14th in the NCRA feature – her third top 15 in seven races this season.
“Friday night was a pretty good night,” she said. “Midway through the feature, I finally found a line that I could get around that place. I learned a lot throughout that race.”
That night was the biggest struggle for 16-year-old Miranda, who failed to advance to the feature after contact with another car in the B Main sent her off the track.
The roles flipped the following two nights at The Great American Dirt Track in Jetmore, Kan., where the sisters from Sedalia, Mo., competed in the 3rd annual Steve King Memorial.
On Saturday, Miranda improved as the night wore on. After struggling in the heat race, she charged from 10th to finish fourth in her B Main, which earned her a bid to the feature. She then rallied from last – 22nd – to place 10th on the rough track.
“You just had to go for it,” she said. “You couldn’t lift. You had to drive it in there hard and pass as many cars as you could.”
Miranda continued the momentum on Sunday at the semi-banked, 3/8th-mile dirt oval. She drove from last – eighth – to finish fifth in her heat race, and she picked up the final lock-in spot into the 30-lap feature. She then finished 14th on the dry track, which was her third top 15 of the year.
“The weekend went great,” she said. “I made the feature two out of the three nights, which I thought was pretty exciting.
“Just to make it to the feature and be able to run with those guys was awesome. You get a lot of good experience with the good drivers. You learn a lot.”
Haley finished in the B Main both nights at the Steve King Memorial.
The Arnolds haven’t determined where they will be racing this weekend.
