THREE DRIVERS REPRESENTED OIL TWINS AMSOIL AT PERRIS INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION!

(July 7, 2011, Montclair, CA) Three drivers, Tim Brown, Zach Zauss and Greg Alexander, proudly flew the Oil Twins Amsoil logo as they competed at Perris Auto Speedway’s Independence Day celebration before a massive crowd last Saturday night.

Brown, who has led the point standings in the California Lightning Sprint Car Series for a majority of the 2011 campaign, fared the best of the three when he placed third in the main event. The 51-year-old, who is contesting his fourth season in the CLS, began the main in the ninth spot. As soon as the green flag came out, the Wildomar, California based racer methodically weaved his way towards the front of the pack and stayed out of the numerous tangles that plagued the race. Dramatically on lap seven, Brown threaded the needle between the two first place cars when they spun coming off turn two.

When the main event came to a conclusion, Brown was third. By far the most consistent driver in the CLS Series as the season reached its halfway point, it was Brown’s seventh top five finish in eight starts. The third place result allowed him to open up his biggest point lead of the year. When the second half of the season kicks off on July 23rd in Bakersfield, Brown will have a 107-point cushion between himself and his closest pursuer.

Brown’s Oil Twins counterpart in the CLS race on Saturday night was the always affable Zauss. Making his first start since March, the 22-year-old from Murrieta, California, who goes by the moniker of “Triple Z,” placed 6th in his heat race and 15th in the A Main.

Alexander, who makes his home in Gardena, California, had an up and down night. He qualified 16th in the 32-car Amsoil USAC/CRA field. In his heat race, a rock knocked off one of the nozzle lines and forced him to run the 12-lap B-main. The 22-year old rising star won the “B” and started 14th in the A-Main. The young driver was on a mission early and passed five cars to move all the way to ninth. He was ready and poised to pass more cars when a right rear shock broke and he ended up 14th.

Alexander will return to action on Saturday, July 16th, when the USAC West Coast 360 series returns to Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway in Hanford. As stated above, Brown hopes to keep up his drive towards the championship on July 23rd at Bakersfield. Zauss will be back in the driver’s seat when the CLS comes back to its home track, Perris Auto Speedway, on July 30th.
