TULSA, Okla. (July 18, 2011) – The beat goes on; another Sunoco Fuel ASCS Southwest event, another Rick Ziehl win.
But, will that be the case when the series shifts to Peoria’s Canyon Speedway Park this Saturday night?
Ziehl, the three-time and reigning series champion hailing from Las Cruces, NM, carries a four-race win streak into Saturday’s cadr atop the semi-banked, 3/8-mile Canyon Speedway Park clay oval.
Among those four wins is one in the series only previous 2011 stop at CSP on May 21, the first of the streak that has included three subsequent wins at Tucson’s USA Raceway. The winged Sprint Cars of the ASCS Southwest Region will return to CSP just two more times after Saturday’s event.
On the strength of his recent hot streak, Ziehl has stretched his points lead out to 91 points over El Paso’s John Carney II, with Knoxville, IA, resident Calvin Landis, Alamogordo’s Kyle McCutcheon and Glendale, Arizona’s Joshua Williams rounding out the current top five in points.
The rest of the current top ten includes Lance Norick (Scottsdale), Dalten Gabbard (Peoria), Joshua Hodges (Tijeras, NM), Steve Stone (Mesa) and Joey Chester (Phoenix).
Saturday’s Sunoco Fuel ASCS Southwest Region action at Canyon Speedway Park is slated to go green at 7:30 p.m.
Peoria’s Canyon Speedway Park is located 25 miles north of Phoenix on I-17 to Exit 223, then 6.3 miles west. For more information, contact the track at 602-258-7223.
The Sunoco Fuel ASCS Southwest Region is currently slated for 20 overall nights of competition in 2011.
