NEWTON (July 28, 2011) – It was back to their home track for the Ossenfort Racing team last weekend. Jacob saddled up in the Knology #99J 360 for another night of competition against some of the hometown rivalry that they’ve been trying to beat all season at the Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Hot laps were welcomed by Jacob, as the last few weekends he’s spent his time on short tracks and this was perfect for getting used to the big track again. “It was nice to have a chance to get a feel for the big track again and it’s always fun to getting used to the cars again after it’s been awhile.” Jacob said.
The #99J finished his heat race in second, which placed him into the redraw for the night’s main event. “We miss judged the track a little bit and we were loose for the heat. One car got by us but we ended up with a solid second.” Jacob had to say.
Jacob drew the number two (#2) pill for the redraw, which put him in on the first row, outside. He knew it was going to be a tough race and that he was going to have to work hard to keep his place in the front, and work hard he did. “I ran with Ned Powers for the first couple of laps. I was working the top of the track and he was trying really hard to get by me on the bottom and slide me, but I never let him. All the sudden it was lap seven and I was a half a track ahead of the field!” Unfortunately however, on lap eight as Jacob headed into the corner the entire left side of the car fell on the ground and started dragging. “I was really disappointed that we had to pull in. It turns out that it was only a $3.00 heim joint on my left rear arm that broke. It left nothing to support the frame because the left rear arm holds the torsion bar and the shock pin,” said Jacob. Although he was disappointed you can bet that Jacob will be back again.
On Sunday the team made their way to Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota to try their hand in the #99J Don Ott powered 410. Jacob started the night by qualifying in eighth, which also placed him third for the start of his heat race, however the driver who was sitting on the pole position, decided that he wanted to start the race in the rear of the pack, which put Jacob on pole. “I raced into the first corner and thought I had it won, then there was a caution. When we went green again, I went into the corner on the high side and another car came flying in underneath me on the low side and slid all the way up in front of me. I had to slam on my brakes pretty hard to avoid hitting him. I guess it just goes to show that no one is going to lift, even on a small track.” Jacob said. Jacob ended the race in second place, which gave him back his time and started him eighth for the A-Main event.
The main event was almost a green to checkered race and all of the cars were fast. Jacob put on a good show, getting passed by one car and passing him right back. The Knology #99J finished the night in eighth. “It wasn’t bad, but we’re obviously striving to do better. I can really tell that I am getting better and smoother when I’m in the 410. I just have to keep driving and keep practicing. It’s all about seat time and I believe that we will just keep getting better as we move on in our racing career.” Jacob had to say of the night.
Jacob and the Ossenfort racing team are on the move this weekend, making it a four day weekend! You can look for the Knology #99J Don Ott powered 410 tonight at the Red River Coop Speedway in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada racing with the All Star Circuit of Champions. The second stop will be at the Dacotah Speedway in Mandan, North Dakota to run one more night with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association on Saturday night. The last stop will be Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota to run the All Star Circuit of Champions event.

Vortex Racing Products
Vortex Racing Products is the industry leader in Sprintcar Wing design. From humble beginnings in 1995 where we began producing wings for our own use we quickly became engaged in producing wings for other race teams. Inspired by a life-long background in racecar design and manufacturing from our Dad, we (Paul and Lynton) continued to evolve into a company known for producing a product a little different from the rest. This ability to manufacture a Wing that is unique in design is what has been our success. With the use of our own race teams in Australia and America, we continually push the boundaries of design with an extensive testing program of our products each and every year. It is with our understanding of chassis design and manufacturing that we are able to communicate with our clients and tailor a wing package that best suits their driver, team and make of chassis. We call this,” The Vortex Advantage”. http://www.vortexracingproducts.com.au/
