– HIGHLANDS, Texas (Aug. 15) – Channin Tankersley is licking his chops.
After two weeks away from the track, the 20-year-old from Highlands, Texas, is amped for his return with an ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader this weekend. Even more exciting is where the action kicks off.
“I can’t wait to get back out there at Golden Triangle Raceway Park,” Tankersley said of the ¼-mile track in Beaumont, Texas. “I seem to run well there and hopefully the trends will continue on Friday.”
In five races at Golden Triangle Raceway Park this season, Tankersley has won four heat races and two features.
The racing continues on Saturday at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas, where Tankersley has met horrible luck this season. In two events at the 3/8-mile dirt oval, he has failed to start one and failed to finish the other.
Engine issues kept Tankersley from racing on April 16 and an early incident in the feature on June 18 sent him to the pits with a last-place finish.
“I haven’t done as well at Royal Purple Raceway, but I’m ready to turn that around,” Tankersley said. “All it takes is one good night. I hope that this weekend I have two.”
Tankersley is currently seventh in the ASCS Gulf South points – only 57 points out of the top five. There are seven races remaining, including the two this weekend.
