McFadden’s Challenging Night

By Daniel Powell

The annual Australian Sprintcar Masters was a tough night for James McFadden, but despite the difficulties, he still managed to bring home a sixth place feature race finish.
In what was his first appearance at the Speedway City (Adelaide, SA) track of the season, McFadden’s night was hindered by a damaged radiator aboard his NQ # 25 Totally Workwear Midland & Midland supported COOL. It required the team to change the faulty part in question and it consequently forced them to miss the Top 8 dash. As a result of not taking their place in the dash McFadden started the feature race from position eight.
On what was a difficult one lane and hooky track for the feature race, McFadden found the going a little tough from his eighth starting position. Although he managed to make up a couple of spots, McFadden ended up finishing sixth.
“The track was drenched by the water truck leading up to the feature race and that brought out the grader, so that dished up a completely different track and it made picking a suitable setup difficult for everyone,” explained McFadden, who had earlier in the night qualified second fastest in time trials, followed by a pair of sixth places in his two heat races, and that put him as the fifth highest point scorer heading into the Top 8 dash. “Due to the track being so hooky, it was basically a follow the leader type of racing for the entire race. I know that hindsight is a wonderful thing, but had we been able to take our spot in the dash, it quite possibly could’ve been a completely different end result.”
McFadden will this Saturday night (November 12) contest the latest round of the Eureka Garages & Sheds Series at Avalon Raceway (Geelong, VIC).
McFadden would like to thank his car owner Scott Milling, parents Dave and Tania, and crew chief Glen Beaton, along with his valued sponsors: Totally Workwear Midland & VIC Park, Western Diamond Drillers, AUS FUEL GULL, Lucas Oil Products Inc, KRE Race Engines, OMP, Racer Industries and COOL Chassis, for all of their ongoing support in the 2011/12 season.
