December 17, 2011 – The inaugural Monster Energy™ Sprint Car Series season presented by the Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) is in the books, and champion, Jerrod Hull, will be reaping more rewards in January. The veteran from Sikeston, Missouri won the year-long battle in the championship race and one of the spoils will be competing in January’s Chili Bowl Nationals for midgets in the MOWA #12 Stealth.

Hull has competed once in the Chili Bowl held at the Tulsa Expo Raceway in Tulsa, Oklahoma. That came back in the late ‘90’s, and Jerrod remembers it being a struggle. “We probably shouldn’t have gone in the car we did. Even at that time, it would have been a nice car to put in the museum. It didn’t have any power steering, and it had the smallest VW they made. We worked on it the whole week trying to fix the steering on it. I really needed one of those knobs so I could steer it (laughs). By the end of the week, we were alright from where we started though.”

Hull’s consistency won him the championship and the shot at the Chili Bowl ride. He led the series in wins last summer with four. “I’m really excited to go down and get this opportunity,” he says. “We’ve been down there watching several times since we ran it. It’s a lot different now. There are twice as many cars and it will be a different experience.”

Jerrod’s longtime mechanic, Scott Bonar, is preparing the car and will aid in getting it set up in Tulsa. The Chili Bowl will begin with practice on Monday, January 9 and run through the championship event on Saturday night, January 14. “We’re going to get our practice in on Monday night,” says Jerrod. “Scott and I are working together on it, which is a good thing. We have a Stealth (chassis), and they have a good track record in Tulsa. I think our qualifying night will be Thursday. I definitely want to get things going on Monday so we can be as good as we can be on Thursday.”

Drivers are able to let it all hang out in Tulsa. There is no pressure related to points. “This is the kind of deal where there isn’t any pressure,” says Hull. “You just do the best you can do. Every time we get in a sprint car there seems to be some pressure. I’m looking forward to going down there and having fun!”

The MOWA schedule for 2012 is being finalized, so be ready for an update in the next few weeks!
