Since its inception, “Speedweek” has been an integral part of the World Series Sprintcars Championship. In 2012/13, Speedweek is set to again blast its way through South Australia and Victoria, with venues and dates confirmed this week.

Keeping with tradition, the 2012/13 Speedweek will kick off at Speedway City on Boxing Day (Dec 26) before heading 75km South East of Adelaide to the Murray Machining & Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway on December 27.

A slight change to this year’s schedule sees a day’s break on the Friday following Murray Bridge, to allow teams time to rest and recover before making the journey southeast on the Princes Highway to Mount Gambier on Saturday December 29.

“Speedweek is a very special week of racing on the World Series Sprintcars calendar, but it’s extremely demanding for all involved,” said Speedway Australia Competition Manager Paul Trengove.

“This year we had an opportunity to add in a ‘rest day’ before heading to Borderline Speedway. This will give teams more time to recover from 2 nights of racing and will promote safer travelling between venues.

“In addition it gives us more opportunity for promotional events in Mt Gambier, which can give race fans the chance to get up close and personal with the sprintcars and drivers. “

The World Series Sprintcars Speedweek trail then winds into Avalon, Victoria on the northern shore of Corio Bay on December 30. Only 56km from Melbourne, Avalon Raceway’s 390 metre oval boasts some of the best Sprintcar racing in the country.

Teams will then have another rest day before ringing in the New Year at the home of the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic, Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium Premier Speedway, on January 1 2013.

“As soon as the [2011/12] season wrapped up at the Perth Motorplex in February, we have been busy getting things organised for the 26th running of World Series Sprintcars,” commented WSS Race Director Shane Collins.

“This exciting announcement is the first of many. Like any race team, we’re constantly looking at ways of improving, and with the schedule being finalised plus drivers to be announced in coming months, we are looking at some big announcements for WSS very soon.”
