For the first time in over a decade, there will be thunder rumbling at the Fairmont Raceway in Fairmont, Minnesota, when the JSTS Sprint Cars make an appearance at the RETURN OF THE THUNDER event on Saturday night, May 19th.
“It’s been a long time coming and I can’t wait to see the big wings, big engines and big name drivers back on the big half mile in Fairmont,” said promoter Adam Adamson. “Fairmont has such a rich history of Sprint Car racing but, unfortunately, over the last 12 years, they have not had a single Championship Sprint Car race and I’m glad to help bring them back.”
The race will feature the Jackson Sprint Touring Series winged Sprint Cars and should draw drivers from around the Upper Midwest, including names like JSTS champion Gregg Bakker and 2011 Jackson Speedway champion Skylar Prochaska. For many, it will be their first time on the highbanks. “It has been so long since Championship Sprints have run at Fairmont Raceway that many of the current racers, especially the young guns, have never run there and that should make it fun.”
Adamson has been working closely with new Fairmont Raceway weekly promoter Gary Jacobsen to ensure the event is a success. “Gary has been a huge help in getting all the details worked out and he is just as excited as I am that Sprint Cars are coming back to Fairmont this year,” said Adamson. The JSTS Sprints will also be at Fairmont on July 20th.
RETURN OF THE THUNDER will pay $2,000 to winner of the Sprint Car feature event and will feature Sport Modifieds and Sport Compacts in addition to the headlining Sprint Cars. The Fairmont Raceway is located on the Martin County Fairgrounds, just south of I-90 exit 99. For more information on Fairmont Raceway, log on to www.fairmontraceway.com
