For these racers, the last six months have been a crescendo of emotion and effort. Each preparing their race vehicle to go faster, last longer, and look better in the door-to-door asphalt battles which play out each and every Saturday Night at the track in the middle of everywhere; Springport Motor Speedway. These men and women are from our community. Opening Night 2012 features all the weekly championship divisions of racing: Outlaw Super Late Models, Hungry Howie Modifieds, ABC Stock Cars and Sport Stocks. The Outlaws are the baddest, fastest, fendered stock cars in the world. With NASCAR like power plants and radical, aerodynamic appearances these cars will blister the pavement in speeds in excess of 135 mph on the fastest high banked 3/8th mile track in Michigan. Springport Motor Speedway is “Modified Country” and the best Modified racing in the country takes place in the Hungry Howies Modified Division at the Port. Open wheel stock cars, these highly refined machines are capable of sixteen second laps and winning a feature or track championship at Springport is one of the more crowning achievements a Modified drivers can accomplish. ABC Stock Cars are the largest group of competitors at the Port. Racing under a unique set of wide open, street stock rules; these cars encompass the traditional divisions of Limited Late Models, Sportsman, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks and Pure Stocks. Qualifying is essential for the ABC Stock Cars, with the specific mission of delivering highly competitive racing between equally matched racers, these cars are divided into racing groups based on time, meaning each Feature will start twelve to twenty two similarly timed competitors. Utilizing a full invert, the racing action will be intense and drivers skill will be clearly displayed. The Sport Stock division at Springport Motor Speedway is where you will see three, four or even five wide racing as these four and six cylinder race machines face off. Mustangs, Rangers, Pintos and other like 4-Cylinder powered RWD carbureted cars taking on Neons, Cavaliers, Escorts, Luminas and Intrepids as the 4 and 6-Cylinder FWD cars face off.
New in 2012 is Darb’s Dash! One division each night will have an extra special 4-car dash to determine the fastest of the fast in a sprint to the finish. Over the course of the season each division will get four opportunities to partipate in a dash event, a little something extra for the fans and drivers alike.
Also new in 2012 are feature win trophies. While racing for championship points and a weekly purse’s are what drives our competitors, those quickly fade into memory while a feature win trophy stands the test of time and is a testament to the night you were the big winner! Opening Night’s Feature Trophies are being presented by Albion Motors Big Lot of Jackson.
