(June 8, 2012) – Ohsweken Speedway’s pit area was full of race cars again on Friday night as Trailers By Jim Bray presented a special night of racing, including the “Abel Castelein Twin 14’s” for HRW Automotive Mini Stocks. Davey Boughton took the Pierced Parts Bombers feature and Mike Evers won the first Twin 14 presented by Trailers By Jim Bray before rain postponed the rest of the evening’s scheduled events. The Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Car B-Main and A-Feature, Lighthouse Tattoos Thunder Stock feature, and the second Mini Stock Twin 14 presented by Trailers By Jim Bray will be run on June 15.
CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING SPRINT CARS
A great opening night Sprint Car field was topped this week as 32 drivers signed in for competition, including NHRA drag racing star Cruz Pedregon. Rain began to fall as the B-Main was set to start, postponing both the B-Main and A-Feature, which will be completed on June 15.
Heat race wins were claimed by Jamie Collard, Tom Huppunen, Jim Huppunen, and Dave Dykstra. Tyler Rand flipped hard in the third heat, but emerged from his heavily-damaged machine under his own power.
LIGHTHOUSE TATTOOS THUNDER STOCKS
The Thunder Stock count also increased this week, as 34 of the full-bodied V8 powered stock cars were entered this week. Derek Miller, Devin Habiuk, Wyatt Van Wart, and Jack Myers claimed heat race wins, while Chris Crawford won the B-Main. Trevor DeBoer flipped hard on the front stretch during his heat race, but climbed out uninjured from his damaged car.
Rain postponed the A-Main, which will be completed on June 15.
HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS
The HRW Automotive Mini Stocks raced in honour of a fallen friend on Friday, with Twin 14 lap features presented by Trailers By Jim Bray on the card. The Mini Stocks racers were able to complete the first of their two features before the rain came, and it was long-time speedway regular Mike Evers who outlasted the field to win it.
Jason Coutu, Mike Taylor, Dave Small, and Jeremy Hughes chased Evers to the finish line. Rain postponed the second Twin 14 presented by Trailers By Jim Bray, which will be completed on June 15.
Heat races for the 38 car field were claimed by Mike Taylor, Laura Hughes, Jason Lungaro, and Dale Cooke, while Jeremy Hughes won the B-Main.
PIERCED PARTS BOMBERS
Davey Boughton survived a close call when contact with another car almost launched him upside down. He was able to right the ship and take the lead from Kathi Dickie on the way to his first Ohsweken win. Dickie took the second spot, followed by Jesse McDonald, Dusty Deboer, and Jeremy May.
Heat races for the 15 car field were claimed by Dusty DeBoer and Brady Longboat.
NEXT WEEK AT OHSWEKEN
Lighthouse Tattoos presents “Brant County Night” next Friday, June 15, when spectators showing proof of residence in Brant County will be admitted to the speedway for half price. The Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprints, Twin 15’s for Lighthouse Tattoos Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Pierced Parts Bombers are all part of round 3 of Friday Night Thunder, including makeup races from the rained out June 8 Trailers By Jim Bray events. Gates open at 6:00 with racing starting at 7:45!
