Placerville, CA driver, Andy Gregg continued his latest run of success at his home track, the Placerville Speedway, as he tallied a third place finish during the 7th Annual Mark Forni Classic on Saturday night.
Over the last few weeks, Gregg has had the opportunity to race several times at the infamous red clay facility and he has shown some serious speed dating back to his third place run on June 30th with the King of the West Series followed up by an impressive 20th to ninth place charge on the fourth of July.
On Saturday night in front of a capacity crowd on hand to honor a man that did so much for the facility, Gregg timed his 7Industries.com/Guts Racing/Autism Awareness machine in fourth fastest of the 32 cars on hand.
Making it through his heat, Gregg lined up in the second row for the star-studded feature event.
Underway, Gregg and his BR Motorsports/King Racing Products/The Air Tool backed entry quickly moved up to the fourth spot as he battled with the likes of Andy Forsberg and Jonathan Allard on what was a very racy track.
While battling with the stout duo, Gregg fell back to the sixth spot, but made quick work of Steven Allard and CJ Humphries to work into the fourth spot.
After getting around Nicole Miller for third, the driver known as “Guts” set his sights on Allard and Forsberg again but the duo were just to tough on this night.
A late caution set up the field for a green-white-checkered finish, but Gregg was unable to challenge the leaders as he had to fend off Kyle Hirst to hang on to third at the finish line.
“It was a really fun and technical track tonight,” said Gregg. “It’s always fun to race the caliber of drivers like Allard, Forsberg, and Hirst, and just hope the fans enjoyed that race. It was a great show for a great crowd, and hopefully we see all of them back at Placerville soon.”
Andy would like to thank 7industries.com, GUTS Racing, Ervin Sales Group, Autism Awareness, Pro Shocks, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, The Air Tool, River City Alarm, Poor’s Equipment Repair, K and T Fab, Brown and Miller, Tarvin Images, C&R Racing, Amerikote, Meyer Motorsports, and Hinchman Racing for their support during the 2012 season.
ON TAP: Andy and his GUTS Racing team will now head to the Antioch Speedway on Saturday night. During the last King of the West race Gregg suffered an extreme engine failure so will be looking for a big night on Saturday to make up valuable points.
