BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – July 21, 2012 – When Joey Saldana saw last year’s World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series schedule, a unique race stood out.
The Outlaws returned to Bloomington Speedway – a quarter-mile track a little more than an hour from his home – for the first time in 12 seasons. However, three weeks prior to the race Saldana sustained a devastating injury, which sidelined him for a couple of months.
Saldana is healthy as the World of Outlaws head back to Bloomington Speedway on Friday, Aug. 3.
“It’s definitely a race track I miss racing at and looking forward to running it this year,” he said. “I used to get out of school on Fridays and go help Robbie Stanley race Bloomington every Friday night. I got to watch a lot racing, a lot of great drivers and it seems like it’s a pretty cool, little race track.”
Despite a rich history with the track, Saldana has yet to claim a World of Outlaws victory at Bloomington Speedway. Current championship points leader Steve Kinser has a series-best eight wins in the 24 Outlaws events.
Sammy Swindell, who is third in the standings, has claimed five wins and Donny Schatz is the only other full-time Outlaws driver with a victory.
