Over the last three years, Shane Stewart has been a dominating force at the Canadian Nationals at the Ohsweken Speedway as he has won the race twice, and scored a second place finish, this year he kept up with the same dominance as he scored another second place finish.
With Friday night raining out, it was a single night event with group qualifying, and heat races lining up the feature event.
Going out in the fourth session, Stewart was the quickest in his qualifying group aboard the Red Line Oil/Media Tile/DDNi backed machine and would go on to win the heat race and line up in the third row for the 35-lap feature event.
Looking to become the first three time winner of the event, Stewart and Dustin Dagget hooked up in a thrilling battle for the third spot.
Grabbing the third spot, Stewart then moved into the second spot on the sixth lap, and slid up the track on the eight lap handing second over to Daggett, just before the caution waved.
Glued to Daggett’s rear bumper, Stewart held onto the third spot for the next 12-markers as the lead duo exchanged the lead several times, ultimately opening up the door for Stewart to take over the second spot on lap-20.
Once in second, race leader, Steve Poirer, has set sail, and distanced himself from the field and took home the win, with Stewart settling for second.
“We had a very fast racecar tonight, but Steve Poirer was better than us all tonight,” Stewart said. “This 3G car is a pleasure to drive when I can, I just wish we could of got them a win tonight.”
Shane and the 3G Motorsports team would like to thank Red Line Oil, Media Tile, DDNi, XYZ Machine, Gaerte Engines, All Star Performance, KPC Chassis, and SST Shocks for their continued support.
ON TAP: Stewart will be aboard the Rich Farmer No.29 this weekend at the Eldora Speedway on Friday and at Lernerville on Saturday night with the World of Outlaws.
