Top-five result begins Reidy’s season

The 2012–13 season began for Danny Reidy with last Saturday night’s opening round of the KRE Sprintcar Series at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway, and he celebrated it with a top-five result.

After starting the feature race from position 10, the NQ # 5 Desert Palms Resort – Alice Springs supported J&J driver battled his way forward – on a track surface that was quite greasy due to a 40-minute delay for rain in the lead up to the feature race – to finish in fifth place at the fall of the chequered flag.

“The rain shower before the feature race made the track quite difficult, but it was the same for everyone out there,” commented Reidy. “I’m happy to come away from our first meeting with the car in one piece and a top-five result, so we can only build on that going forward.”

Reidy commented that an incident – where he had spun out due to contact from another competitor – in his second heat race denied him of a spot in the top-six shootout. He was eighth in qualifying time trials and then finished third and fifth in his two heat races, which put him 10th on points heading into the feature race.

The second round of the KRE Series returns to Archerfield Speedway on Saturday night, October 13.

Reidy is planning to base the majority of the 2012–13 season’s racing around his home state of Queensland.

“We’ve decided to base this season’s racing program around Queensland, as there is a lot of good racing on offer, including this season’s Australian Title in January at Brisbane,” Reidy explained, who will head south in late January to contest the Grand Annual Classic at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway in Victoria. “In past seasons we’ve done a lot of travelling, so it’s going to be good to stay off the road for once and stay local.”
