Taking part in the 2012 King of the West finale, Kyle Hirst scored a fourth place finish, marking his fifth top-five finish with the series in five starts with Roth Motorsports.

The night got off to an interesting start for the Sacramento, CA driver as he experienced a rear-end failure during his second lap of time trials. Fortunately, he laid down a strong first lap, and ended up timing in fifth fastest.

Starting third in the first heat race, KH was able to score a second place finish behind Rico Abreu, giving him a berth in the Dash, as well as a transfer into the 30-lap feature event.

Following the pill draw exchange on the front chute in front of a very packed Kings Speedway crowd, KH found himself with the six pill, and would roll off in the third row, as he looked to secure a better start for the feature.

Hirst was able to grab two spots in the dash, as he picked up a fourth place finish aboard his HR Cattle/HR Livestock Transportation No.83jr, and would line up in the second row for the 30-lap main event.

The feature got off to a slow start, as it was interrupted by a number of cautions and reds, taking several attempts at getting a single lap in. When the race finally got into a rhythim, Hirst pounded the top of speedway, as he remained in the fourth spot, as he chased down Jason Meyers.

Unable to get around Meyers, Hirst was able to fend off a pesky Jonathan Allard, until the final caution of the night flew with just two laps remaining. On the ensuing restart, race leader, Kyle Larson, ran out of fuel as he coasted around the top of the speedway in front of Hirst, and Jonathan Allard was able to sneak under KH, dropping him back to the fourth spot, and he was unable to get back by JA.

“I have to thank all the Roth Motorsports guys for working their butts off tonight,” he said. “We had some issues with our rearend after qualifying, and they got us ready to go for the heat. We were good in the feature, as we ran with the leaders all night, Larson ran out of fuel in front of us and it let JA get by. It was fun overall, and I’m looking forward to Trophy Cup.”

Kyle and his Roth Motorsports team would like to thank HR Cattle, and HR Livestock Transportation for their support in 2012.

ON TAP: Hirst will be busy this weekend, as he will participate in all three nights of the 19th Annual Trophy Cup. Thursday night he will run in the non-wing portion, before putting the wing back on Friday and Saturday night. Hirst will be in action aboard the Roth Motorsports No.83jr all week.
