Sydney, AU — (December 15, 2012) — In the best race so far of our new season, American Shane Stewart has come down under and taken out the 2012 Skidz 4 Kidz in front of thousands of smiling young faces.
Shane Stewart and Ben Atkinson went toe for toe in the remaining ten laps of the thirty lap feature. All was on the edge of their seats as both drivers rallied for the top and went side by side lap after lap. With only a hand full of laps remaining Stewart was able to drive away and ended up winning with a small margin in hand. Atkinson lead parts of the thirty lap feature and stunned many as he drove his way extremely hard on top and even touched the wall on the front straight in the early stages and to everyone’s amazement, he somehow got away with it. Jamie Veal once again showed consistent pace and ended up finishing on the podium for his third time this season. So the top ten was Stewart, Atkinson, Veal, Roddy Bellbowen, Ferguson, Pole Sitter James Thompson was sixth, Brady, Hart, Orr, Tunks.
Kyle Caunt made it his second win in a row aboard his number nine Wingless Sprint. It was a great race between him and Jay Waugh who ran home second. Blake Darcy rounded out the podium, while American superstar Tyler Dolacki experienced some dramas and came home fourteenth.
Late Models was taken out by Michael Hickey with Dave Robinson and Barry Kelleher rounding out the top three.
Adam Fisher took out a great fight against series leader Brett Morris in the Legend Cars. With only three laps remaining Fisher went to the head of the field while the remaining positions for the podium were not know until the final corner. Morris just held on for second while Chris Aird came home third.
The Speedcars had a caution filled start as Dean Meadows went upside on the front straight. We are safe to report that he is a-ok. “Brown Dog” Mark Brown won the twenty lap feature but was later relegated two positions after an illegal pass that he made on the windrow of turn one whilst going for the lead. That handed the win to Bryn Lake with Adam Wallis second and Mark Brown third.
Sydney Speedway would like to thank all who turned out and supported the Skidz 4 Kidz. It was great to see so many kids out there having a great time and we hope you see you all back again soon.
The thirty third running of the Valvoline Sprintcar Grand Prix takes place next on Boxing Night. The Americans make there way down under to start our Speedweek festivities as we also take time to celebrate our one thousand race meetings. It’s going to be a cracker and one you don’t want to miss.
