Brisbane, AU — (January 19, 2013) — Kevin Britten and Neil Howard won the January 19 V8 Dirt Modified and Wingless Sprint Features respectively at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway, the victories the first for both drivers at the venue this season.
Britten topped the timed hot lap sessions with a 14.101s lap before placing sixth and fourth in his Heat races to earn a start from the third row in the twenty lap Feature, taking just three laps to work his way to second and then passing Australian Champion Mark Robinson on lap nine for the lead. Britten then held off the challenges of Robinson over the remaining distance to take the win with Andrew Pezzutti filling the final podium spot ahead of David Clarke and Peter Britten in fifth.
Howard and Brooke Wanless, the grand-daughter of Qld Speedway legend Ron Wanless and daughter of Todd, tied for top spot in qualifying points after the Wingless Sprint Heat races but it was Howard who went on to take the win in the fifteen lap Feature. Wanless, who is still in her first full season of racing, ran second to Howard early in the race before losing a spot to Brant Chandler and brought the #24 home third to secure her first podium finish.
In other racing on the night, Glen Leslie (Brisbane Sedans), Jason Walsh (FvHvS), Wayne Kirkman (Open Sedans) and Martin Wilkinson (Stockcars) all won Track Championship Features while Darren Vine won the Compact Speedcars Feature ahead of Mick Wilson and Scott Jeynes.
Racing continues next Saturday and Sunday nights at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway with the Australian Midget Championship featuring International drivers Dave Darland (USA), Michael Kendall (NZ) and Australia’s best in Nathan Smee and Mark Brown amongst the entries plus the Australian AMCA Nationals Championship with support class racing each night plus a Caravan, Boat And Dunny Race and Fireworks on Sunday night.
