It certainly wasn’t the ending that Danny Reidy was expecting to last weekend’s Australian Sprintcar Title at Adelaide’s Speedway City in South Australia, but it was one that was made with common-sense in mind.
After finishing seventh, after starting from position 10, in the opening heat race, Reidy had a second row start for his second heat race of the night. It was in this second heat where his weekend turned pear shaped. Off the start the pole sitting car had spun out in front of the field on the opening lap and it involved Reidy. The damage sustained in the incident was enough to put him out for the restart.
Due to the tough conditions and large fields of competitors, Reidy and the team decided that dropping a heat race meant it was going to be near impossible to make the Australian Title deciding feature race, and called it a weekend.
“I wasn’t prepared to wear out my equipment in the faint hope of making the big show at the end of the weekend,” said the NT # 5 Desert Palms Resort – Alice Springs supported J&J driver. “It’s disappointing to have our weekend end the way it did, as the team and I had been looking forward to building our encouraging form.”
The Reidy Racing team, who sit ninth in the current World Series Sprintcars Championship point standings, are now on their way to contest this Wednesday night’s (February 1) 11th round of World Series at Kalgoorlie International Speedway over in Western Australia. Following Kalgoorlie, the World Series western swing will continue this Saturday night (February 4) for the 12th round at Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway.
Reidy would like to thank, Desert Palms Resort – Alice Springs, Camden Neon Signs, P&M Motor Body Repairs, Gonzo’s Race Pipes and Inglis Race Engines, for all of their 2011/12 season support.
